Wasp Removal in Seattle and Tacoma
Did you know there are around 30,000 identified species of wasps? Lucky for us the Northwest is only home to a handful of wasp species, including hornets and yellow jackets. While many types of wasps don’t sting, unlucky for us, hornets and yellow jackets do.
Wasp stings are not only painful; they can be dangerous. The risk of being stung by a wasp, hornet or yellow jacket is that everyone reacts differently to the venom that wasps produce. Many people are allergic to the venom from a wasp sting. Stings are especially dangerous for children and pets because of their weight.

You can tell the difference between wasps and bees by their bodies. Wasps have slender bodies with pointed lower abdomens and a separation between their abdomen and thorax. Wasps are usually shiny and have hairless legs. Bees are generally wider and more circular with hairy bodies and legs.
All wasp species create nests but not all types of wasps are social. Only 1,000 out of 30,000 wasp species are social. The other 29,000 types of wasps are solitary. Social wasp colonies can have more than 5,000 members.
Stinging wasp types include hornets and yellow jackets, both of which are social species. They live in colonies and work from springtime into late summer. The goal of most social types of wasps is to create a nest and protect their queen, who will fertilize her eggs that will hibernate during the winter.
Wasps are dangerous to humans because, unlike bees, they can sting their victim multiple times. Wasps nests will become their largest during the end of summer. This is when wasps will be most aggressive and are the most dangerous to humans.
Yellow Jacket Removal
Yellow jackets are common in most parts of the world. Although they are extremely abundant in the southeastern United States, we also have them here in the Pacific Northwest.
Yellow jackets are oftentimes mistaken for bees because of their similar appearance. You might be able to distinguish a yellow jacket from a bee by identifying their nest. Yellow jackets create nests out of wood fibers and saliva. Their nests look like they’ve been built out of extremely thin layers of paper. The outside of a bees nest is usually covered with bees whereas you'll most likely be able to see the exterior of a yellow jacket nest. Only a few yellow jackets will swarm around the outside of their nest.
Getting rid of yellow jackets can be extremely difficult and dangerous. DIY yellow jacket traps can be faulty and set you up for more hassle and pain than success. If you spot a yellow jacket around your property, house or business, give us a call at (844) 293-1601

There are around 20 species of hornets. The European hornet is the only type of hornet that lives in North America. Hornets are around 1.25 inches in length, although the queen is much larger than her workers and drones. Hornets and yellow jackets are closely related to each other, however hornet’s heads are much larger than yellow jacket’s heads.
Every person's body reacts differently to the sting of a hornet. Some people have extremely bad reactions to hornet stings whiles others might only feel a minor burn. The venom from a hornet’s sting can be extremely harmful; especially to children and pets who don’t weigh as much as adults.
If you see a hornets nest on your property or find a hornet inside of your house, contact us for a free hornet inspection. We can help you identify the type, size and species of your infestation and provide immediate hornet removal.
