Types of Moles & Voles around Seattle & Tacoma

Garden Moles

townsends moleYards in the Seattle and Tacoma area tend to attract two types of moles; the Coast mole (also known as the Pacific mole and the Red Footed mole) and Townsend’s mole. Both moles are attracted to our Pacific Northwest moist soil.

Coast moles and Townsend’s moles are brown in color and have velvety fur. Their fur is specially designed to stick straight up so that they may move forward or backward without catching it underground inside of a small tunnel. They have round bodies, long slender noses and large front claws that do the majority of their digging. Their noses have extremely advanced sensory receptors, which control most of their awareness. Moles have extremely small eyes and they’re mostly blind because they live underground for most of their lives and only come up for short periods of time to breath oxygen.

Townsend’s moles are smaller than Coast moles. Townsend’s moles are approximately 8.3 inches long, they weigh around 5 oz and they have a tail that’s around 1.6 inches long. Coast moles are approximately 6.3 inches long and weigh around 2.2 oz with a tail around 1.2 inches long. Both types of moles can cause the same sort of damage to lawns and gardens by digging tunnels, creating mounds in lawns, and destroying shrubs.

If your yard is being afflicted by ground moles, call our mole control specialists for mole extermination at (206) 362-9100 or request a free estimate for mole removal and vole extermination. We’ll safely and effectively get rid of moles in your yard and garden.

vole controlVoles look similar to field mice; they’re small, round rodents that range from 3 to 9 inches in length. Although voles are related to field mice, they are a separate species. There are over 155 species of voles.

Voles can cause large amounts of damage to lawns, gardens, and trees. They have the ability to destroy lawns by eating grass blades and repeatedly scurrying along the same path. They can ruin gardens by eating the plant leaves and produce and they’re able to kill trees by gnawing on their bark.

You’ll be able to identify whether you have a vole problem by the visible runways that they create in lawns and the small holes they use for nests. Their nests are usually dug into the ground and they’re the size of a golf ball. Voles like to hide in foliage and plants that cover the ground. They might look for shelter inside of your home during the winter and find safety in nearby fields or meadows in the summer.

Vole Control and Yard Mole Removal Services

mole hillMoles and voles are challenging species for homeowners to get rid of because they can inhabit a large area and they can be difficult to locate. Although mole trapping used to be an effective management tool for these pests, Washington residents are now banned from using body-gripping traps for mole control. Because of this ban, it’s been extremely difficult for homeowners to rid their lawns and gardens of moles or voles. If you do have mole problems, call one of our trained technicians at (206) 362-9100 or request a free estimate for vole control and mole removal.
Our vole control and mole repellent service will quickly and effectively reduce and eliminate mole activity in your yard. Our natural mole repellent is safe for your family and your pets, it’s healthy for the environment, and it’s effective for the removal of moles and voles. Whether you’re trying to remove garden moles, ground moles or voles, our organic mole treatment will get rid of moles and eradicate your vole and mole problems.

Our natural solution for mole control gets rid of moles and voles by introducing a smell that is unpleasant for these pests. Although humans won’t be able to smell the solution, moles and voles notice it because of their strong sensory receptors that are located in their snouts. The smell from the treatment effectively eliminates food sources for pests by leaving a bad taste in their mouth when they eat. By contaminating their food source, they must leave the premise and find food that is not contaminated.

Our natural mole repellent solution is spread across the property that is being damaged by the moles and voles, creating an environment that will no longer support their existence. This treatment has been shown to safely and effectively remove moles from the area where the solution is laid. We focus our treatments during the seasons when moles typically surface most, and when they are the most damaging to your landscape.
